AFTER THE LOOOOONG SILENCE…..

Assalamualaikum & greetings to all,

It’s totally the opposite here as compared to our fanpage on FB for ALIMkids Wangsa Maju. All the updates are there – pictures, promotions & activities. Blame it on us as time is not always by our side to update both concurrently. And for that, thousand apologies…

So what is it exactly that we’ve been busy with? The Playschool is on for 3 times per week (Mon, Wed & Fri), 9.30am-12pm, 2 playgroup sessions soon-to-be-three back to back on Saturdays & also once-in-a-while weekend activities (for example Maulidur Rasul event & science camp for primary children in February).

As for this month in March, we have also outlined a few interesting activities for children & mothers as well. The followings are what we have in store in conjunction with the coming school holidays:

And right at the end of the month, insya allah there would be a hands-on bread making class for mommies. Details as follows:

In the meantime, our playgroup & playschool programmes are definitely on-going.

PLAYGROUP is a one-hour , weekend (Saturday) programme for mother & child. It is also a mom + child bonding time where they get to sing, play & do activities together. What makes it even more interesting is… the session is conducted mostly in English (by a certified & experienced TESL teacher) & using Islamic content (books & songs).

Meanwhile, our PLAYSCHOOL is specially designed for children age 3-5 years old that aims to get them ready for the preschool later. The syllabus emphasis on early writing + numeracy + alphabet recognition + phonic skills, on top with Islamic/pre KAFA content as to solat, wudhu’, Iqra’ & simple hafazan. All these are carried out through PLAYING with a little Montessori method incorporated.

So, that is basically it about what is going in ALIMkids Wangsa Maju. For more details, do check out our FB page, ALIMkids Wangsa Maju to keep up with the latest activities & announcements. And oh yesss… we do have interesting books for toddlers, preschoolers & primary kids as well. Come & pay us a visit soon to see for yourself what we have to offer.

Hope to see you at ALIMkids Wangsa Maju insya allah…:D

Hear ye…hear ye…ALIMkids Playschool would come to town…;-)

Yess…you hear it right. We are going to have the playschool as well besides the bookshop & the playgroup. The playschool will commence in February insya allah. So for those who are staying in Wangsa Maju & the nearby areas, do come to the preview to know more…

In this preview, we will brief about the fees, rules & regulations, aims & objectives as well as the syllabus. Kindly visit the blog if you want to get some insights about the playschool beforehand.

So should you feel like coming to any of the session, kindly call first to confirm. See you there!

Sessions on 7th January 2012

Alhamdulillah the session for the first group doing module 1 had successfully been carried out. I could see the expressions on their faces the first time they came – beaming with excitement anticipating new experience in their lives. And of course…mommies (& daddy) were there all along to give them full support.

So what did they do? They started off by introducing themselves using a ball (with mommy’s help). Then they sing, they read, they did their Me Flag & they got to know the first 2 alphabets.

Widad, Amy, Aiman & Izzat painting their palms & print it on a coloured paper before they sticked it onto a stick to make their Me Flag. There were 6 of them in this first session: siblings Nuqman & Widad, Amilyn, Aiman, Nabilah & Izzat. But teacher Fiza only managed to snap 4 of them..:-(

For the trial session right after, the responses were overwhelming. Some turned out without confirming with teacher Fiza first, so there were hiccups here & there before we could really start. THOUSAND APOLOGIES FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE & SHORTCOMINGS. But it was worth it in the end where the teacher could see many happy-and-not-shy faces anymore, alhamdulillah..:-)

Some of them…:-).They were supposed to pose with the spider they made but the spider was somehow couldn’t be seen…:-)

All in all, everything went well Alhamdulillah. May what we did for our kids today would be a very good investment for them when they grow up. And we at ALIMkids Wangsa Maju is just happy to do our part…;-)

Mini Library @ ALIMkids Bookshop Wangsa Maju

Just wanna introduce you to the Mini Library at ALIMkids Bookshop Wangsa Maju...;-)

It's still very minimal but a very good start hopefully. If you have any preloved books that suitable for toddlers/preschoolers/primary/secondary children or even for parents, you may donate them here. May Allah reward you more & bless you always for your kindness...:-)

With this mini library, we aim to instill reading habit in the children. They can read Malay/English storybooks here, Islamic books, Reader's Digest, encyclopedias or read/learn along with the CDs (provided that they bring a laptop). Parents could also spend time reading together with them. For more pictures, do check out our fan page in FB (i.e ALIMkids Wangsa Maju).

So the next time you wanna go to Carrefour or Wangsa Walk, do check out our place as well. Who knows that later the trip to those hot spots would no longer be as interesting & exciting to your kids (& may be to you too!) than the trip to our mini library or the bookshop as a whole ;-)

ALIMkids Playgroup…a refresher

Assalamualaikum…SALAM TAHUN BARU 2012!

How’s the new year so far? And what’s your resolution for this year? We at ALIMkids Wangsa Maju aims to be more productive in providing quality early childhood programmes for your children. Besides that, we wish for the place to be one-stop centre for preschoolers, as well as primary & secondary children, to have academic & religious guidance through the activities carried out. So, let’s make du’a for this to happen (while we are working extra hard here) & do check this blog more often for the latest updates, Insya Allah…J

I would like to start this year’s entry with a refresher of ALIMkids Playgroup. Above all the promotions in the last entries, some of you, who might be new to the ‘playgroup’ concept or even ALIMkids in general, may wonder what is it all about. Let’s get the simplest definition of ‘playgroup’ - as a group of toddlers age 18-36 months old playing together. These children are usually accompanied by their mothers where the mothers would also get the chance to socialise and also exchange stories & experience in bringing up their kids. Initially it was popular amongst the expat’s wives who found it as a means to connect with others & the surroundings. The content of the playgroup is usually not structured, which more often than not is just letting the children playing together. This would last for 1 to 2 hours, once a week or once a fortnight.

Based on this, ALIMkids took it further by incorporating Islamic values through the Khalifah method. Now what is Khalifah method? The Khalifah Method was founded by Prof. Dr. Muhammad al'Mahdi. He designed it to provide parents and teachers with a simple method to help them raise children of excellent character who can succeed academically, socially, and professionally in today’s world without losing their traditional Islamic beliefs and practices.

In ALIMkids Playgroup, we try to incorporate the Khalifah method through the 6 modules that are supposed to be completed in a year.

Specifically in ALIMkids Playgroup Wangsa Maju where I am the teacher, I structured the one-hour session into 5 segments: THE WARM UP SONG, READING CIRCLE (RELATED TO THE TOPIC), ARTS & CRAFTS, ACTIVE PLAY & PHONIC INTRODUCTION. I do it this way due to the short attention span that the toddlers have and also to avoid them from feeling bored doing an activity for too long (to them). Above all, it’s about ISLAM that I want to introduce & instill in them. May they grow up to be better, stronger & wholesome Muslims of tomorrow…insya allah..:-)

So, now that it’s clearer about ALIMkids Playgroup, how about you? Are you clearer of which early childhood programme you would like to give your child? May be this would help you to decide…J

Come & visit us some time…see for yourself what we have to offer. Hope to see you soon…J

Note: Teacher Fiza is a TESL graduate from University of Exeter, UK. She had the experience of teaching English & MUET in secondary schools, tuition centres & also a private online IPTS. She also had the experience of developing and designing printed & online learning materials for another private online IPTS. After 10 years of working 'formally', she decided to work with young kids, to nurture & prepare them for the bigger worlds of school & higher learning institutions. Her vision is to bring the children & youngsters of today back to the basis of knowing Allah & Islam before anything else. She can be contacted at ALIMkids Bookshop Wangsa Maju.

Happening in January 2012...

Assalamualaikum everybody,

I would like to take this opportunity to wish HAPPY NEW YEAR 2012...may we continue to strive in becoming better muslims in the coming year & bring more blessings from the Almighty, Insya Allah...:-)

In conjunction with the new year, we would like to extend the Playgroup Registration Promo...

Yes, we extended it to give more people the opportunity to join us once they have settled with the older siblings at school...so that many would benefit from this programme...:-).

Not only that, we also have this...
Those attending the trial would join GROUP 2 who will be learning about animals. It sure is exciting!!

So don't miss this opportunity in providing the best for our kids. See you soon at ALIMkids Playgroup Wangsa Maju, insya allahh...:-)

Playgroup schedules for Modules 1 & 4

Assalamualaikum.....

May this last Friday of 2011 gives us peace & time to reflect on ourselves before the coming of new year 2012…J
Insya Allah our playgroup will resume on 7th January 2011. GROUP 1 will start fresh with Module 1 (MYSELF) & GROUP 2 will be doing Module 4 (ANIMAL KINGDOM). Registration is now open, so make your choice quick & decide which group you would like to join.
If you want to start from the beginning without missing any module, you can join GROUP 1. This group would also be more suitable for younger toddlers (18-36mo) as they would be made aware of themselves first before anything. The module could give them ways to explore their bodies & what they can do with it through singing, playing & doing crafts.

Here is the schedule for Module 1:

If you have preschoolers (3-4yo), may be joining GROUP 2 for Module 4 would be better. At that stage, they are more eager to discover & investigate further. So introducing animals to them in quite a structured manner in the playgroup would be a way to satisfy their quest for knowledge & new experience. It could also be as a weekend activity for those who have actually gone for kindy.

And here is the schedule for Module 4:

Doesn’t matter which module or group you decide to join, the choice is yours. Give teacher Fiza a call while the places are still available & the promotion still on. Either way, definitely you have made the right choice by selecting ALIMkids Playgroup as your child’s early childhood programme.
See you soon…J

Alhamdulillah...the preview went well. A BIG THANK YOU for parents who came with your child(s). We started with du'a & the ever famous "Good Morning" song. The kids were quite shy in the beginning but as the session progressed, they started to open up & became comfortable in no time.

Here are a few pictures during the session (thanks to sister Hani who came over for the pictures!)...

Drawing their palm using crayons before they coloured it..

Look, I can draw!..with daddy's/mommy's help that is....:-)

Lemme do it all by myself, mommy....

The parachute play that they liked the most....weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

After they were all done, snacks were served (alas, no photos!)...baked macaroni & chocolate moist cuppies..Alhamdulillahhh....

Knock...knock...^_^

Assalamualaikum everyone,

Masya Allah...without we realising it, it's been a month plus since the last post. Hopefully everything is okay for everybody.....

I just want to draw your attention to this....

" Allah gave me my children, and at the end of the day, I will return them to Him. In what condition do I want to return them to Him? How far different will they be as compared with the day they were born?"

Stumbled upon it when I was reading an article on homeschooling by Maria Zain & it really made me think....deeply. So what do you think? I think the playgroup has  given me the opportunity to at least play a little role in establishing good values in the little khalifahs, be it  from the the child's development or Islamic view. May Allah give us the strength, patience & wisdom to take care of our children so that they will returned to the Creator in the same condition, if not better than the day they were born....amin Insya Allah...

So, let's play another little role of ours that has already become our routine with our child....the playgroup sessions. Don't forget that IT WILL BE ON as usual. Teacher Fiza just can't wait to see you guys after one week break....

Oh yess...& I just wanna share this wonderful write up from one of the mommies in Group 1. Perhaps you could also read & share her breastfeeding experience too....

How not to yell at your kids?

Assalamualaikum parents & everyone,

I bet dealing with our kids everyday, especially toddlers, are fun. They will always have something to say, to do, to explore & to experiment. Those are the things that can make our day, cheer us up or even drive us mad. More often than not, whey they do drive us mad, we would yell or shout at them in anger & disagreement on whatever they do. Personally, I myself is no exception. And I hate & regret it after that...

Then, a friend of mine shared this article & I've practised it since...if not all, a few of it. So now I share it here for other parents to share. May it will help us in educating & bringing up our children to be a great little khalifahs, Insya Allah...

1. Breathe: Feeling like losing your mind? Inhale and exhale until you are fine. You may want to walk away from the scene. In Islam, we are also taught that if you started to feel angry, sit if you stand, lie if you sit. And put off the fire with water (wudhu).
2. Address the behaviour: When you’re teaching your children to ride their bikes, do you punish them when they don’t get it the first try? Of course not. You encourage them, support them, and give them guidance. The same goes to teach them what’s right and what’s wrong.
3. Mean business without being mean: tell them what you wanted them to do, firmly and with love.
4. Help your kids to understand their feelings: teach our children how to effectively express themselves by validating their feelings without validating their behaviour.
5. Have Clear Rules & Follow Through: Do not threat them. Show them the consequences of not following the rules.
6. Give praise for okay behaviour: Pay attention to your kids especially when they show good behaviour. Kids would do anything to get you focus.
7. A strong bond makes discipline easier: the closer you are to your child, the less likely your child is to act up, even though no child is perfect.
8. Put yourself in their shoes: No one loves to be yelled at. Kids have feelings too.
9. Good eating & sleeping habits: Kids will act up when they are hungry and tired. Keep well-balanced diet and good sleep. Parents included. Everybody will be happy when they are full and fresh.
10. We’re not perfect: To err is human. But do explain to your kids why do you yell when you have cooled down. Tell them that if they cooperate, so will you.
Read the original article at parents.com website.

It's been soooo long...

Assalamualaikum everyone,

Hope everybody is in the pink of health under HIS care & blessings amidst all the things that needs to be done.
Personally, I was quite occupied lately (which has driven her to quite stressful situations, especially at work)...& that was the main reason why was the blog remained silent.

Anyway, now the situation is a little better so hopefully I can give some attention to update the blog on a more regular basis..

Though the blog was silent, it was all the opposite at the playgroup. We took part at the Smart Kids 2011exhibition in PWTC last month & as the aftermath, the playgroup now has already 3 groups ....yeayy....alhamdulillahhh....

So starting from this Saturday, GROUP 3 is officially on board from 12.30pm - 1.30pm. We still have a few more spots to offer, so check us out to find out more...& bet you know who to call...

Till then, may you guys are always blessed by HIS Almighty & take care...

Sessions on 12th March 2011

Assalamu'alaikum everyone...

May everyone is always under the care & blessing of ALLAH the Almighty, Insya Allah.

So here are some pictures that teacher Fiza managed to take during the sessions last Saturday...

GROUP 1 was doing activities under the topic I Love Daddy. For the arts & crafts, they made a special No. 1 Dad trophy for their fathers. But alas...teacher Fiza forgot to bring the painting brush & the pallette, so ended up the kids had to paint using their cute, small fingers (or better still, mommies fingers!) & the colours poured onto a polistrene plate instead. On top of it, there was no electricity in the premise for about 10 minutes or so that the session need to be carried out in front amidst all the merchandise...*sigh. As humans, we can only plan but the rest is up to the Almighty. So we need to always be prepared with a back up plan to come up with...
Thank you very much for all mommies & little khalifahs for bearing with me in times like this...
Despite all the hiccups, the birthday cake & the small double birthday celebration was what the kids were waiting for. HAPPY 4th BIRTHDAY to ELISHA (9/3) & HAPPY 3rd BIRTHDAY to ALIAH (18/3)...

As for GROUP 2, there were only 3 of them turned out. Although it was the last session on Module 1, teacher Fiza didn't give out the certificate of completion yet as it wouldn't be much them without all of them present. So here are pictures of them present while making binoculars under the topic I Can See...

Things happening on 12th March 2011 @ ALIMKids WM...^_^

Salaam again to all...

So what is it about the things happening tomorrow (12/03/2011)?...

For GROUP 1, we are going to do activities in Topic 2 of Module 2, I Love Daddy. Make sure you don't miss this & please come on time because we are going to have a small birthday party right after the session...yeayy!!

And for GROUP 2, we are also going to have a small party to mark the end of Module 1 where teacher Fiza will give you your certificate of completion....alhamdulillahhh!!...
But we are going to start a little bit late, i.e @ 11.30am. So, don't miss it yaa...

Teacher Fiza is really looking forward to meeting all of little khalifahs tomorrow for another fun time, Insya Allah...

Sessions on 5th march 2011

Assalamu'alaikum parents & little khalifahs,

Alhamdulillahhh...we are progressing very well with the playgroup so far. GROUP 1 has started the 1st session (I Love Mommy) of Module 2 (My Family & Friends). For this 1st session, little khalifahs tried finger play & sang to "Where's Thumbkin". They got their little fingers drawn with faces to indicate brother (thumb), mother (point finger), father (middle finger), sister (ring finger) & baby (pinkie). They also sang a song for mommies while waving ribbon streamers. To show how much they love their mommies, they made a special flower crown for their beloved mother...

In the meantime, GROUP 2 was in the 7th session under the topic I Can Smell. They tested their sense of smell by smelling different types of items that teacher Fiza brought to class. The result...they can react to the smell they like or dislike...alhamdulillahh. For the arts & crafts session, they made a paper plate elephant with a looooong nose...
